When you first get saved, one of the first questions is what you’re supposed to believe now, and everybody seems to have an opinion. Here’s what we hold to. It’s the same ground everything on this site is built on.
We’re not trying to build a denomination or win an argument about one. We’re trying to help people understand what Scripture actually says.
We hold to the King James Bible as the verbally inspired, inerrant word of God, and it’s the final authority on everything taught here. Not one authority among several. The final one. Scholars and commentators are worth listening to, and the people who studied before us deserve a hearing, but when they disagree with the Bible, the Bible wins. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
Salvation is by grace, through faith in what Jesus already did. He died for our sin and rose bodily from the grave, and nothing you do earns any of it. That freedom isn’t permission to keep living however you want, either. It breaks sin’s hold on you so you can serve God because you want to, not because you have to. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me (Galatians 2:20). A real walk with God comes from staying connected to Him through Scripture and prayer, not from a checklist of rules. Your convictions will grow as you grow. Following rules borrowed from someone else’s convictions, with nothing changed on the inside, is just legalism. Using liberty as an excuse to do whatever you want is the ditch on the other side of the road. Both are wrong.
Get into a good local church and submit to its leadership. Your pastor will give an account to God for how he watched over you (Hebrews 13:17), and that’s a real responsibility. But the church isn’t the final authority. God is. If leadership ever asks you to go against Scripture, Peter already answered that one: We ought to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29). Stand on it with humility, not with a chip on your shoulder.
