It's not a performance. It's just talking to God, honestly.
A lot of people go quiet in prayer because they're waiting to sound like someone else: a pastor, a verse, a polished paragraph. Drop that. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not. James 1:5 says to just ask. Plainly. God isn't grading the delivery.
In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus gives His disciples a model. It starts with who God is, before it asks for anything. It submits to what God wants before it brings up personal requests. It deals honestly with forgiveness before it asks for protection from temptation. You don't have to recite it word for word. Follow the order instead: start with God, submit to Him, ask honestly, deal with what's between you and others, then ask for what you need.
The more time you spend in Scripture, the more prayer starts to come from what you've actually been reading, not just what's on your mind. Start there too if you haven't yet.
